”As they stood on the wooden, cellar staircase, Violet thought back to the late afternoon when she’d returned to the Gasthaus, after secretly seeing the doctor at the French military headquarters in West Berlin – Quartier Napoléon.

Violet knew that René had been discouraged by news from his East German contact that day.  The Soviets had not yet located the files of his parents’ captivity and where they could be found.  René then assumed that Sachsenhausen may not have been the camp of their incarceration…”
