“1949” begins midway into the Western Allies Airlift of food, medicine, fuel and other survival goods to the people of Berlin … when the Soviet Union blocks rail, road and water passage. 

The Soviets’ plan was to starve the West Berliners and force the American, British and French forces out of Berlin.

The Western Allies stayed.  The resolve of the German people to determine their own life choices won a different war.

The foundation photograph was taken in 1949 by a US Air Force Airman and published in Airman Magazine.
