Many thanks go out to our heroes in the freight transportation industry that move 54 tons of goods for every American throughout our interconnected network of trains, trucks, planes and ships.
I can’t believe I complained in the grocery store a few days ago that I couldn’t find peanut butter.
Without all the long-haul truckers moving what we need around the clock across the US, most our grocery stores would run out of food in 3 days. Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, the trucking industry – alone – employed 6% of all full-time jobs in America, generating about $700 billion.
The rail industry, also prior to the current health crisis, supported about 1.1 million jobs (or .8 percent of all US workers).
When I created the included image, entitled “Roll On”, I was thinking of the truck driver whom I’d scheduled to deliver cargo from Virginia to the rail yard that would transport a load of security equipment to Chicago . . . in a snow storm.
George Meier, CTB (Certified Transportation Broker), of Freightquote contributed content for this praise of the hard-working transportation workers mentioned herein. Statistics are quoted from US Bureau of Labor, the American Trucking Association and American Association of Railroads.
We’re Americans. We know how to solve problems – together.
