The “Ancient Horse Tree”, dry and scarred, grows beside the walking path – content to be patted by children reaching up to touch its wooden jaw.

Adults keep their hands to themselves as they admire its natural wonder . . . and they imagine how many eons have passed for the tree to wither into its current form.

I do not touch the tree – except with warming color.  Winter is coming.  I don’t want the tree to get cold.
