“The Dragon’s Island” was once a stack of stone slabs a weary dragon could see from a hot and cloudless sky. The dragon had been flying from dust-filled battles and longed for a soft, green patch of earth on which she could lay her head.
She saw the stack of gray, unforgiving remnants of a volcano’s eruption millennia ago – and imagined its soft pillows with undisturbed peace.
She blew out all the colors she harbored in her power – and the slabs tumbled. Some melted, and water circled the glowing remains.
The embers cooled into fine soil for green contentment to grow. She settled down, curling safely into rest. She allowed one eye to close, smiled . . . and slept as much as the powerful can.
