“AFTER THE BERLIN AIRLIFT”

As I begin the second book “1969” of my “Starlings of Peace” Trilogy, readers will see that the airport returned to General Aviation operations.

Tempelhof, the primary hub of the Berlin Airlift became one of the largest airports in Europe for passenger volume.  The US Air Force operated out of the airport as the main terminal for military transport aircraft to West Berlin.

American kids worked at Tempelhof, handing out towels, waiting tables, and washing dishes. They earned a Military Privilege Card that allowed them to put an American Forces license plate on their car.
